Southern Cross, Waikoloa, HI, January 13th, 2019

At great peril to life and limb I was able to get these pictures of the southern sky, including the Southern Cross (Crux). There was a bare lava border between the back of our condo and the golf course, which navigating in the dark gave me a few scrapes but could have easily broken a bone or two with some of the invisible holes. Crux and other constellations in this vicinity are not visible from anywhere else in the United States but Hawaii. You can also clearly see Omega Centauri up and to the left of Crux by about twice the size of Crux (just over the back of Centaurus in the annotated view). If only it got that high in my Texas skies! You can see the two satellits, one with a long streak further to the upper left, while the other gives one tumble going down to the left.
