"Whirlpool Moon"

This is my original concept artwork for this gallery, combining the Whirlpool galaxy with a desert landscape and a star field background to produce a view of the galaxy as it might be seen from a nearby airless moon. At this scale, the Whirlpool would be several times closer than our nearest neighbor Andromeda.
