091031-14 Ants in Trunk

Turns out the tree had almost died completely several years back, and while it had come back and appeared healthy on the surface, it was dead inside and carpenter ants were boring out the core. So, if I didn't take the tree down now, it would have eventually come down on the observatory. As painful as it was to remove such a large tree, I still have plenty more, and this opens up the skies for the observatory as well as preventing a future disaster! October 31st, 2009.
